Adding event category specific sliders to a static pages offers content customization and control on static pages and blog posts.
Controlling what events will show up in the widget
While the widgets are capable of auto filling from the selected category, you can also control what will display in your event category widget.
In the ARTSOPOLIS Hub, go to Event > Display Management and use the drop down menu that defaults to ‘Homepage’ to select which event category you would like to customize, then click ‘Filter’.
Select the events would you like to show up in the widget by checking the ‘Featured’ checkbox and clicking ‘Save’ before leaving each page. Once all the events you want to feature in the widget have passed, they widget will once again auto-populate. The events that have been chosen as ‘Featured’ events, will display in the widget chronologically.
Finding the Shortcode for your Event Category Widget
In your ARTSOPOLIS Hub, go to Event > Categories and find the category you want to display as a widget in your category list. Click the category name to view the category detail page.
Find the ‘Feature Events Shortcode’ near the bottom of the page and copy that full line of code, brackets and all.
Placing your Event Category Widget on a Static Page
In Guttenburg’s Block Editor or a Blog Post
Navigate to the static page you would like to edit, or create a new one by choosing ‘Pages’ from the black left hand menu, and selecting ‘Add New’. When you are ready to add your Event Category Widget, click the ‘+’ in your editor to choose the Shortcode block (Note: You may have to select ‘Browse All’ and look for the block in your list – you will find it under the section ‘Widgets’). Then paste the shortcode you copied from your event category detail page into the block.
In Elementor’s Editor
Navigate to the static page you would like to edit, or create a new one by choosing ‘Pages’ from the black left hand menu, and selecting ‘Add New’, then clicking the ‘Edit with Elementor’ blue button at the top of the page. When you are ready to add your Event Category Widget, select your drag and drop options and scroll down to the General section where you’ll find the ‘Shortcode’ block.
Drag the shortcode block onto the page, then paste in the widget shortcode into the box on the left hand side. You should see the widget display on the page in the location where you placed the shortcode block.
The widget will display the event category widget content the same way categories are formatted to show up on your homepage. You can title the widget whatever you like – it doesn’t have to match the event category. You can add as many different widgets to a static page or blog post as you like.
