Syndication Options

Syndicating content to other third party calendars has become an increasingly important factor in facilitating our Artsopolis Network members’ ability to develop or enhance local/regional partnerships. Our ability to provide for a centralized community database as a single point of content entry and distribution is a critical part of improving efficiency in the sharing of calendaring content and the community building effort, in general. The Content Syndication module allows a site administrator or content manager to create an unlimited number of custom XML/RSS feeds or calendar “widgets” for distribution to third party calendars.

FILTERS INCLUDE:

  • Category Type
  • Date Range
  • City or Zip Code
  • Organization
  • Venue

OUTPUT TYPES INCLUDE:

  • RSS
  • XML
  • ICS/ICAL
  • JSON
  • IFrame Widget
  • WordPress Plugin

BLACKOUT FUNCTION:

This function allows you to select specific category types that should NOT be included in the feed output, whether a primary category, secondary category or sub-category.

XML Feed

Example: Visit Milwaukee Events Calendar powered by Milwaukee365.com

In the XML feed example, the partner site (Visit Milwaukee) receives the content via a ‘raw’ data feed. It is their Web developer who handles the look and feel of the content within their website to adhere to their brand standards.

Other examples:

iFrame Widget

Example: Folsom Presents powered by Sacramento365.com

An embeddable calendar widget that can be used on third party sites. The iFrame calendar widget allows your syndication partner to easily embed your event content onto a web page with little to no difficulty. The iframe calendar is a simple ‘turn key’ solution. The only drawback is that it’s not as mobile friendly or ‘responsive’ as the other solutions listed.

Other examples:

Artsopolis Calendar WordPress Plugin

Example: JazzBoston Events Calendar powered by ArtsBoston.com

To use this plugin solution the partner’ website must be on WordPress.

Other examples:

Sister Site

Example: CapRadio Events Calendar powered by Sacramento365.com

The microsite solution is basically its own stand-alone Artsopolis website that is skinned to emulate the look and feel of the parent website.  Sister Sites are typically a sub-domain of the parent website, in this case using “events.” as the sub-domain.

Example: Houston Arts Alliance Events Calendar powered by HAATX
