The Settings menu of your site is where we configure everything about how your site works and functions.
The Settings are divided into eight elements:
General
In the first tab, titled General, you’ll be able to edit your site’s title and tagline as well as seeing and customizing your site’s address. Your WordPress.com interface might be in one language, like English, but maybe you’d like your site’s default elements such as the footer to be in another language, like French.
There you can also set the timezone of your site. This is especially useful when you schedule posts.
In the General tab, you’ll also be able to set the privacy settings of your site. Don’t want anyone to see your site until it’s fully built? Make it private!
Other options are available such as displaying related content under your posts. This is also where you can change your site’s address, start over and delete your site.
Be careful! Once a site is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Please be sure before you proceed.
Writing
The Writing settings allow you to choose default options such as the default category and format for your blog posts.
Reading
The Reading settings control how your blog is displayed to visitors.
Discussion
In the Discussion settings, you’ll be able to set options for the incoming comments on your site, trackbacks and pingbacks.
There, you can choose required criteria for visitors to comment, you can also choose to automatically close comments after a certain number of days and you can opt to moderate incoming comments. This page is also where you’ll want to go if you are facing persistent commenters. You can choose to automatically blacklist comments using certain words, email address, URLs and even IP addresses.
Media
The Media Screen controls the various settings related to images and other media that are used in events, posts, homepage spotlight, and pages.
Permalinks
Permalinks are the permanent URLs to your individual pages and blog posts, as well as your category and tag archives. A permalink is the web address used to link to your content. The URL to each post should be permanent, and never change — hence the name permalink. The Settings Permalinks Screen allows you to choose your default permalink structure. You can choose from common settings or create custom URL structures. You must click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen for new settings to take effect.
By default, WordPress uses web URLs which have day and name in them; however, WordPress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure for your permalinks and archives. This can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links.
Privacy
As a website owner, you may need to follow national privacy laws and display a Privacy Policy. It is your responsibility to provide the information that your Privacy Policy requires, and to keep that information current and accurate.
Favicon
The Favicon setting controls the update notifications. If you want instructions for uploading a favicon, please click here.
Please note: There should be no need for you to access the elements in Settings but if you do, please proceed with caution.
